Wodonga couple Jeffrey and Morgan Barton will open what they believe is the region's only specialised fresh seafood and game meat store in High Street on Saturday.

Starting out as an idea over a couple casual glasses of wine, Wodonga Seafood and Game has now grown into an established shop front.

"We were just looking for a business to get started and we thought we'd follow our passion," Mr Barton said.

"It's limited around here, you can't always get the freshest stuff that Melbourne has to offer so that's something we wanted to provide for the community."

The store will stock gourmet and specialty meats including rabbit, wild pig, freshly shucked oysters, kangaroo, venison, goat and crocodile.

Mr Barton said the community's response to the opening showed the couple that they might be onto something.

"It's been massive," he said.

"This has blown out of proportion more than we could ever have imagined.

"We started off with a Facebook page just to test the waters.

"It went straight over 1000 likes within the first few hours."

Mrs Barton said quality and local meats would be sourced for the store.

"We only want Australian and New Zealand seafood and game meat, and if the quality isn't there we won't sell it," she said.

Having both grown up on game meats and seafood, the Bartons said they'd be more than happy to share cooking tips and tricks with anyone trying the meat for the first time.

"We want to provide cooking tips and stuff like that, because people don't know how to cook game meat," Mrs Barton said.

"We'd like to help them cook it right and enjoy it."
