FIVE QUESTIONS WITH MICHAEL THOMPSON
BG: You recently welcomed your first child in Mason. There seems to be a fair spike in the number of players throughout the league who have recently become fathers?

MT: I agree and I have got a theory why. I think with no football last year due to COVID-19 blokes seemed to have had a bit more spare time on their hands.
BG: How have you enjoyed playing in the bush after your stellar O&M career?
MT: I'm fortunate that Kiewa is such a great family club and to be playing for my home club is something that I do cherish. I've probably had my fair share of soft tissue injuries since returning and have to train a bit smarter to overcome that.
BG: Coach Adam Mudra has thrown you forward on numerous occasions since joining the Hawks?
MT: I enjoy the challenge of playing forward but I've just got to learn to kick straight. It seems every time I go forward I end up kicking 1.6 which doesn't do the team any favours.
BG: It's fair to say the Thurgoona dynasty has finally come crashing down and the competition appears to be the most open in recent history?
MT: I agree and if you don't come to play there's a fair chance you will get rolled. There seems to be at least one or two upsets every week. It's refreshing and sure beats one side dominating and belting everyone on a weekly basis.
BG: You play Yackandandah this week who have been the surprise packets of the season so far and are undefeated?
MT: I don't know a lot about the Roos to be honest. From what I'm hearing they are a young side that obviously go alright. I'm looking forward to seeing them first-hand on the weekend.

Mitta United v Wahgunyah
Barnawartha v Wodonga Saints
Kiewa-SC v Yackandandah

MATCH OF THE ROUND: Kiewa-SC v Yackandandah
Yackandandah boast one of the youngest lists in the competition with coach Darren Holmes giving his young charges a licence to take the game on. Key forward Bryce Rafferty is coming off a seven goal haul last week and has been in good early season form to lead the league goal kicking with 24 goals. The Hawks have been far from their best but arguably are coming off their best win of the season against Barnawartha last week.
Prediction: Kiewa-SC by 23 points
