Wodonga Middle Year College campus principal Maree Cribbes said parents were concerned about choosing where to send their children to school.

"Our recommendation is that they always should go to their local primary school or the school that's closest to them," she said.

"That's important so that they can interact with the local community and be a part of their local community and that their children can be involved with one another not only at school."

But some parents said they were considering other options.

Mum-of-two Chloe Young said she came to the session to find out which school would be suitable for her daughter, who began school next year, but did not want to send her to the nearest school.

"I would be zoned to Wodonga West, but I want (my daughter) to go to Wodonga Primary," she said.

"I work right next to Wodonga Primary and I feel like it is more suitable."

Another Wodonga mother, Kirrily Boyd, said she, too, was considering sending her daughter to a school that would not be the closest.

"I actually work at my closest school," she said.

"But I'm not sure if we want (our daughter) to go to my school or a different school, so we're keeping our options open."

Ms Boyd said she was considering what different schools could offer.

"I wanted to know how the schools cater for individual learners and how they set them on their path for being the best lifelong learner they can be," she said.

"The principals answered that really well, but it hasn't made the decision any easier."

Ms Boyd said choosing the right school was an important decision.

"This is a huge decision," she said.

"The school you chose can really shape the child your student can be in the future. That's huge for us and other parents and I think its a big decision you've got to not take lightly."

Ms Young said making the decision was a big task.

"I'm already emotional, because I'm doing it all alone," she said.

"So making this decision by myself is quite upsetting and scary."
