Farmers across the Border and North East are celebrating Tuesday and Wednesday's rainfall, especially coming off the back of two dry months.
Lockhart farmer Phillip Bouffler described the rain as a timely reprieve.
"It couldn't have come at a better time," Mr Bouffler said.
"There were a few crops that have come up a bit uneven so this is going to fix them up a bit and hopefully we'll be able to see what sort of damage the mice have done."
Mr Bouffler said around the Lockhart area the general rainfall was about 21 millimetres.
The mixed crop and stock farmer that a good follow up shower would help shore crops up until the spring.
"It's not enough to be a proper break but we're heading the right way, we'd like a couple inches of rain just to really wet the joint down," he said.
"We're in the main game now but at the end of the day it comes down to the same old thing; the spring.
"It comes down to what happens in spring."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Baranduda based agronomist Rick Thompson said that the rainfall will help keep the season on track, following a bumper year in 2020.
"It always could have come yesterday but the season is still going to look quite good I would hope, lets just see what spring brings," he said.
"I think coming off the back of the perfect year in 2020, everyone was hoping that 2021 was going to be the same but we've had a dry autumn.
"As long as we can follow through with consistent rain in winter and a solid spring it's still going to be a good season."
Kevin Wardius, who runs sheep between Walbundrie and Rand, said he would have liked to see more rain but this is a good start.
"It was good to finally get a drop over 10 millimetres, we've been getting two and three millimetre drops but that's not quite enough," he said.
"It's worth having, it'll do for a month or so."
Mr Wardius said his property received about 17.5 millimetres of rain.
Howlong had some of the best rainfall totals in the region, with the gauge showing 26.8 millimetres of rainfall.
Tallangatta, Gerogery and Wangaratta all measured in at around 19 millimetres of rain.
