Mayor Heather Wilton said she expected councillors would approve the tender.

"I'm quietly confident we will get the numbers to get it passed through council," Cr Wilton said.

She said the Holbrook community had been waiting a long time for the tender to be approved for the sporting complex.

"There are many, many people who are very anxiously waiting for Wednesday nights approval," she said.

"They're very much looking forward to a new sporting facility in that area."

Nine tender options were initially presented to Greater Hume Shire council at its February meeting, but Cr Wilton said due to a funding shortfall they needed to be renegotiated.

"A lot of the tenders were quite a way off the expected budget mark," she said.

"So we've had to make amendments to the original proposal to get to where we are now."

Upon renegotiation, the preferred tenderer, Baranduda-based Gilchrist Property Group, was able to change the design and materials for the project to save about $50,000 without affecting its functionality.

To help meet the costs of the works, the council decided to allocate funding from the sale of the Holbrook aged care hostel and the Holbrook Caravan Park Reserve.

The town's football club and sporting complex board also raised substantial funds to get the long-awaited project underway.

Cr Wilton said the new complex would be a major upgrade from the current set up.

"It'll be a tremendous facility for all the people who are involved in sport in Holbrook," she said.

If the tender is approved, construction is forecast to be completed by mid-March next year in time for the 2022 football and netball season.
