The league's biggest man produced the two biggest chases.

Myrtleford's Dawson Simpson is 209cms and 111kgs and when he set off after Wangaratta Rovers Jack Gerrish at the eight-minute mark of the first quarter on May 15, he was no chance to catch him.

The 76kg Gerrish is probably the league's fastest player, with possibly only former Commonwealth Games contender Mat Grossman (Wangaratta) capable of matching him.

"Mate, it was my time to go," the co-coach suggested.

"That's the message, if I'm not willing to put in that chase, then I'm not worthy of telling my players to do it."

Simpson chased the speedster for 65m and while he didn't catch him, the perceived pressure forced Gerrish to miss the target.

"The mindset was if I can get close to him, I could put him under pressure to stuff his kick up, that would be good enough and that's what happened, that was a win in my book," he offered.

Only 10 minutes later, Simpson had the same scenario with Sam Murray.

"I was a bit annoyed, I was hoping someone quicker was around me," he laughed.

But the former Geelong and GWS ruckman set off after his fellow ex-AFL player and, again, the kick failed to hit a team-mate.
