Shannon James Royal banged on doors and windows, yelling to be let in, but was repeatedly refused.

At one point he got into a car in the driveway and accelerated to "within inches" of his sister, who told police she was "pretty scared".

Royal was to be sentenced in Albury Local Court this week over the East Albury incidents from early April.

But magistrate Richard Funston decided to defer that until October 13 to give Royal the opportunity to take part in the residential "circuit breaker" program at Benalla's Odyssey House.

"So, Mr Royal," he told the 22-year-old, who appeared via a video link to Junee jail, "you're going to get a chance before me today."

But Mr Funston told Royal, a diagnosed schizophrenic, he would not be treated leniently on sentence if he failed to complete the program at Odyssey House.

"Now, grab this opportunity with both hands," he said.

"If you breach it you'll let everybody down and you'll get a full-time jail sentence."

Royal previously pleaded guilty to intimidation, destroy or damage property, contravention of an apprehended violence order and a second offence of driving while disqualified.

Royal's sister was in the family home in Whinray Crescent on April 11 when he turned up about 3am.

Concerned about his welfare, his sister called an ambulance and he was taken to Albury hospital, but, after a 9.55am discharge, he returned.

Thereafter, Royal began knocking on windows and doors, demanding to be let inside.

Royal and his sister shouted at each other after she refused to let him in, so again he left - just before police arrived.

He returned early the following afternoon and again began banging on doors and yelling to be let inside.

Royal squirted a window with a garden hose, then smashed a garden pot and an ashtray, causing $180 damage.
