COVID: Gundagai Foodworks added to growing list of exposure sites

NSW Health has issued a notice that anyone who visited Foodworks at 152 Sheridan Street, Gundagai, on May 19 between 11am and 12pm must monitor for symptoms.

If symptoms occur, people should get tested immediately and self-isolate until they receive a negative result.

NSW recorded no new locally acquired cases of the viruses in the 24 hours to 8pm on Saturday from more than 17,000 tests.

NSW Health on Saturday night revealed it had added Foodworks to its list of venues of concern, after an earlier alert for three other venues in the Hume Highway town.

A holidaying family, who later tested positive to COVID-19, were in southern NSW between May 19 and 24 while potentially infectious.

The family stopped in Gundagai on May 19 on their way to the NSW South Coast from Melbourne, where they visited the Foodworks, ate at The Coffee Pedaler cafe and visited the Craft Centre and Junque and Disorderly antique shop.

NSW Health issued an alert for the other three venues on Wednesday night, prompting hundreds of Gundagai residents to get tested for the virus at a Murrumbidgee Local Health District pop-up clinic at the town's racecourse.

Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council mayor Abb McAlister said everyone who had been tested had so far returned negative results.

He praised the community for rallying in response to the alert and for being vigilant in getting tested.

He said the alert had prompted a "fair number" of residents to get vaccinated against the virus at the Gundagai Medical Centre.

"But certainly the businesses are still feeling the effects. Usually on a Sunday morning they're busy, but they're not this morning," he said.
