Wangaratta Rovers and Wangaratta in round three wasn't just the best game of the first seven rounds, it's as good as we've seen in years. The 2012 final of Yarrawonga-Rovers, when Barry Hall missed a shot after the siren, rivals it.
That game obviously had more riding on in but, in a regular season match, Rover Cody Schutt's effort in the closing stages against the Pies was remarkable.
Premiership favourites Wangaratta had just grabbed the lead, but with eight minutes left defender Schutt had the chance to float in from the side and leave himself exposed for a monster hit.
He went for it, but still had some work left as the Pies' defence converged.
"I was a bit hesitant, it was a 50-50 handball (to give to my team-mate), I'm a backman so you don't often get on the end of one, so I thought, 'bugger it, I may as well have a crack'," he offered seconds after the siren.
