The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting up to one metre of snow may fall on the alps when a coastal low develops on Wednesday and leads to a large amounts of snow.
The bulk of forecast heavy rain is expected to fall in Gippsland, but welcome further rainfall for North-East Victorian and southern NSW is on the way after low totals were reported in April and May.

"Large accumulations (of snow) are likely for the alpine resorts ahead of the opening of the ski season," meteorologist Jonathan How said.
"From midweek there is the potential for heavy rain across Gippsland and south-east NSW.
"Computer models are suggesting large totals from Wednesday to Friday which could lead to riverine and flash flooding."
More than 30 millimetres could fall in Albury-Wodonga this week with potentially 80 millimetres in the Upper Murray.
The bureau is forecasting a daily total of between 60 to 90 millimetres at Omeo on Thursday with further heavy falls predicted tomorrow.
Daysdale cropper Peter Hanrahan said the forecast rain would be ideal after a crucial break in mid-May.
"If we got 15 to 20 millimetres out of it things would be good," he said.
