The Giants prevailed 12.8 (80) to 10.9 (69) on a day when the weather played a big part in the spectacle.
For only the second time this season, the Giants are celebrating back-to-back wins although they've got the job done in four of their last five outings.
"There was a bit of relief," assistant coach Luke Kohlhagen admitted.
"It was one of those games that could have gone either way.
"Conditions were pretty slippery so that made it tough going for both teams and it was a real slog.
"It was probably Culcairn's best team of the year so we knew we were going to have a tussle on our hands.
"Our form's been a little bit patchy so we took it as a bit of a danger game.
"We knew there wouldn't be a lot in it and it certainly turned out that way."
ALSO IN SPORT:
Jack Chesser kicked six goals for the Lions, who led at half-time, but it was another match-up where the Giants got on top.
"Brian Lieschke started in the ruck but then he went to full-back on Adam Prior," Kohlhagen revealed.
"Prior was looking dangerous and Brian did quite a good shutdown job once he did go back.
"Ben Hunt, up forward, kicked five for us and that made a big difference.
"There was plenty of ball on the ground, so Chris Duck and a few of those on-ball types were at the bottom of the pack for a lot of the day."
Nathan Wardius and coach Lucas Mellier kicked three apiece for the Giants, who sit fourth.
