Emergency services were called to the Raymond Street property about 9pm on Thursday.

A shed was well alight when they arrived on scene.

The occupant, Brody Rouse, was injured and was flown to hospital in Melbourne in a critical but stable condition.

The 21-year-old lost his pet dog Roy in the blaze and suffered extensive burns.

His friend, Brielle Ross, said those close to him were shocked by what occurred.

"We're heartbroken," she said.

"You don't know what it's like until it happens to someone close to you.

"Everyone just wants him to recover and we want to help him with anything we can.

Mr Rouse had been living in the shed, which was gutted, but a home on the property wasn't damaged.

Ms Ross started a fundraiser for the apprentice diesel mechanic given the long recovery he has ahead of him.

She aims to raise $15,000 to support him while he's off work.

"It takes a long time to recover from burn injuries, mentally and physically," she said.

"All of his stuff was in that shed.

"I can't imagine what it's like to lose everything."

Family members have been unable to visit the 21-year-old given the risk of infection.

Detective Sergeant Chris Hill said the blaze was not suspicious.

"We've got arson chemist investigators at the scene now, establishing the cause of the fire," he said on Friday morning.

"It's non-suspicious and was accidental."

A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesman said firefighters had quickly arrived at the incident on Thursday night.

"Crews arrived within five minutes and found a small structure ablaze and quickly began to contain and suppress the fire while searching for occupants," the spokesman said.

"The structure sustained significant damage.

"One person was placed into the care of Ambulance Victoria paramedics."

It's thought the injuries are not life threatening.

The GoFundMe page, titled Brody's road to recovery, had generated about $2000 in donations as of Friday afternoon.
