An investigation into an incident on May 14 where two V/Line trains were involved in a "near-miss" is ongoing.
A power outage caused a fault with the signalling on part of the Seymour line between Tallarook and Seymour on that day.
Most trains were able to continue operating safely with some delays under an alternate safe-working system, with some services replaced by coaches to minimise the disruption to passengers.
There was one incident during this time where two trains headed in opposite directions were on the same section of shared track.
The trains came to a stop some distance apart from each other and there were no injuries reported.
Investigations continue into the reason the trains came to be on the shared section of track.
"The safety of our passengers and our transport staff is our first priority - and we're working with the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator to investigate a near-miss incident on the Seymour line on 14 May," a V/Line spokesman said.
