Border Music Camp 2021 will be a two-day event of workshops and performances, Sunday, September 26, and Monday, September 27, with bookings to open on Thursday, July 1.

Since starting in 1974, the annual program has established itself as a week-long residential camp for more than 200 musicians eight years and older during the winter school holidays.

Even last year's virtual schedule continued the same timing.

But camp chairperson Peter Cerexhe said the new dates would allow more time to adjust to COVID-19 conditions as the vaccine roll-out progressed.

Realising a residential camp was not feasible, the committee planned two full days at The Scots School Albury particularly aimed at regional students.

Mr Cerexhe said the 2020 virtual camp proved a success in its own way, keeping the camp going and participants in contact.

"But we knew it would be time this year to move on and people are hungry for some face-to-face music making and the friendship that comes from that," he said.

"So we're going ahead with what we believe we'll be able to deliver."

And organisers were "prepared to be agile" regarding the COVID situation.

Musicians like oboe player Therese Scarfe, trumpeter Jennifer McMillan and violinist Veda Zhang plan to join the 2021 Border Spring Music Days

Veda, 11, said she looked forward to seeing her camp friends again but also "I like meeting new people".

Mrs McMillan said as an adult "you go in with fear and trepidation" but then would discover other players both older and younger.

"I think it's good for children to see that adults can learn as well and music is something that they can keep learning," Mrs Scarfe added.
