Mason Richards, 20, was taken into custody on Thursday after the alleged attack on the two victims on May 8.
One of the victims was left with a fractured eye socket, with the injuries labelled as "serious".
Prosecutor Andrew Coombes opposed Richards' release in Albury Local Court on Friday, noting there had been "multiple strikes to the head amongst other things", including kicking.
"In my submission these are serious examples of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company," he told magistrate Richard Funston.
The court heard it was a prolonged assault fuelled by alcohol.
"(My concern) is that the accused will continue to put members of the community at risk by this sort of behaviour," Sergeant Coombes said.
The alleged attack occurred on Dean Street near the City Walk Arcade, between the hours of 12.20am and 1.20am.
Police recently appealed for information about the incident which led to Richard's arrest.
Other attackers were also allegedly involved.
Richards was supported in court by family members.
Lawyer Sascha McCorriston urged Mr Funston to release her client.

"They are very serious allegations, but he is a young man, there are prospects of rehabilitation and I am asking the court to give him the opportunity of bail," she said.
Mr Funston said the 20-year-old was facing the prospect of jail if the charges were proven.
"The allegations against you Mr Richards are very serious ... a vicious unprovoked bashing of people," he said.
The magistrate noted the victims were "just walking past" and labelled it "extraordinary behaviour".
"You are facing a jail sentence on these matters," Mr Funston said.
Mr Funston bailed Richards to live with his mother at her Parkland Crescent home.
He is banned from drinking, taking drugs, entering licenced venues, and has a curfew.
"If you breach any of them, you won't be getting another bail before me," the magistrate said of the conditions.
The matter will return on July 19.
