Ryan Ethan Wayne Fox has decided to fight that matter at a hearing in Wagga Local Court on August 26, the day after his 21st birthday.

Magistrate Richard Funston said the very serious nature of those ram-raid allegations were such that he simply could not allow Fox to be freed on bail.

While Fox has pleaded not guilty to the ram raid-related charges, he has admitted to the assault, from almost two years ago, and to unrelated charges dealing with him riding in a stolen car in April.

Albury Local Court has been told that Fox, also known as Ryan McKellar, was in a relationship with the victim for almost five years before the assault on September 10, 2019, when their son was 12-months-old.

But by that stage they were no longer seeing each other, as the victim had moved to Melbourne and Fox was homeless, having to "couch surf" in the Albury area.

On that day, about 11.30am, Fox and the victim were walking along Barlow Street in Lavington, on their way to Melrose Park.

They began to argue over issues related to money and her living in Melbourne.

She asked Fox to let her push the pram and he replied by punching her to the mouth.

He apologised and walked away. But when she phoned police, Fox ran back and challenged the victim, who told him to go away.

"Do you want me to hit you?" he asked.

He left again and police arrived soon after. But they couldn't find Fox, who family members revealed had fled to Melbourne "with no intention of returning to Albury in the foreseeable future".

The other charges he pleaded guilty to of being carried in a conveyance without the consent of owner and enter a vehicle or boat without consent of the owner related to an incident on April 12.

A man had returned to Albury about 10.45pm to find his Holden Commodore, which he'd parked at the Albury railway station while he took a return train trip to Melbourne, was gone.

Police later obtained a video, posted on Fox's Facebook page under the McKellar surname, taken by Kyle Crighton, who can be heard to say: "I've got myself a f ... ing SS."

The car was recovered in Wodonga, with Fox's fingerprints on a rear quarter window.

He will be sentenced at Wagga Local Court, after his hearing.
