The game was fast-paced with United's Sara Lumby scoring in the first half after some great plays in the midfield, led by national futures squad member Tess Palubiski and Bella Heagney.
Both sides created opportunities, but it was Palubiski that scored a second for United to clinch the result.
Simone Walker in goals was strong for Magpies.
Wodonga was held to a one-all draw by a rapidly-improving Norths outfit.
Norths' Emma Pizzey made the most of an opportunity in front of goals to score early in the match.

Wodonga came out firing in the second half, but were unable to make the most of their opportunities until Imogen Albon managed to find an equaliser.
Albon and Rylee Pontt impressed for Wodonga, with Sherren Latta and goalkeeper Crystal Harris fantastic for Norths.
In division one men, CR United were pushed all the way by Magpies, but were more clinical in front of goal to prevail 4-0.
Tim Smith netted a brace, while Henry Macqueen and Tim Jones also got on the board.
Norths got back on the winner's list with a 4-0 triumph over Wodonga, while Wombats got the better of Falcons, 4-1, in another free-flowing contest.
Meanwhile, after a breakthrough victory in their last outing, the Albury-Wodonga Spitfires suffered an 8-0 loss to Central at Albury Hockey Centre on Saturday.
