After assaulting the man in his driveway, Damian Raymond Allitt told him: "If you ever do that again I'll f ... en kill ya."
Defence lawyer Mark Cronin told magistrate Richard Funston that it was "fair to say" that his client "lost his temper".
IN OTHER NEWS:
"He concedes he shouldn't have done that. He deeply regrets it," Mr Cronin said.
"He's ashamed to find himself in court after such a significant period of time being offence-free."
That stemmed from Allitt giving up alcohol in 2008.
Mr Cronin said Allitt had a "significant addiction" until that time, beginning at a young age.
But to his credit, he said, Allittt "had stopped drinking and stopped offending".
"Your honour, that's the factor that counts absolutely in his favour."
Allitt, 45, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intimidation over the incident that began as both drivers went through a Thurgoona roundabout on April 16.
The victim went to Lavington Square about 9.45am to check his mail and was on his return journey home to Thurgoona, via Wagga Road and then Thurgoona Drive.
He was in the right lane going through the roundabout at the intersection of Catherine Crescent when he saw Allitt's car two cars behind his vehicle.
Allitt went past him in the left lane through the roundabout, but the victim then sped up briefly; Allitt failed to give way as he merged.
The victim sounded his car horn and Allitt responded by slamming on his brakes twice in quick succession.
This caused the victim to almost run into the back of Allitt's car.
Allitt pulled over and aggressively pointed to the victim to do likewise, but the man kept driving out of fear.
He then followed the victim to his home.
Allitt was placed on an 18-month community corrections order and disqualified from driving for 12 months.
