NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said given the number of cases in the community while active, she expects higher case numbers in coming days.
58,000 people were tested in 24 hours to 8pm yesterday
Ms Berejiklian said the state was seeing a 'level of stabilisation' but needs a significant drop in the number of people active in the community.
She said a number of the people active in the community were active because they were attending pharmacies and GPs because of their symptoms.
"It's so important if you have symptoms the only place you should be going is... to get tested," she said.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Ms Berejiklian said the state's collective effort was having an impact but people could not let their guard down.
"Keep limiting your mobility," she said.
Ms Berejiklian said she expects tomorrow's case numbers 'will bounce back up'.
Dr Kerry Chant urged people with symptoms, even if they suspect its hayfever, to get tested and isolate.
"The threat of COVID is everywhere," she said
"Every-time you have to leave the house you have to assume he person next to you is infectious."
Dr Chant said 73 people are in hospital, 19 in ICU and five ventilated.
"My key message is we have to work together to decrease our exposures to others, so stay at home, do not go out unless it is absolutely required," she said.
Health Minister Brad Hazzard said the virus is only mobile when people are mobile.
