NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said almost 76,000 people were tested yesterday.
There are currently 82 people in hospital, 24 in ICU.
Of the 98 new cases 61 are linked to known clusters including 43 household contacts and 18 close contacts.
The source of infections for 37 cases is still under investigation.
Ms Berejiklian revealed she hadn't seen her parents in a month and urged families to stay in the family home and not visit relatives.
She said most transmissions were occurring within houses and workplaces.
"Be extra careful in relation to workplaces and in relation to your own family members who don't live in your household, these are two areas we need to work on," she said.
Ms Berejiklian said the impact of the harsher restrictions won't be seen for a couple more days.
"I know NSW is up for the task, I know we can beat this thing," she said.
