Murray River Highway Patrol Inspector Scott Trewhella said NSW and Victoria police were working closely together to ensure compliance with public health orders.

"Every single day we're stopping multiple cars regardless of what number plates are on your car or where we think you're from," he said.

Mr Trewhella said where breaches of public health orders were found enforcement action was taken.

But thankfully most Border residents were following restrictions.

"I think for the most part, particularly down our way, people are trying to do the right thing," he said.

"Disappointingly we are finding some breaches of the public health order, where people either want to flaunt those conditions or give it a run. But the message just remains that if you are doing the wrong thing you will be found and we will take appropriate action."
