Bridge Road Brewers this week announced its plans for the 350-seat brewery and dining hall in inner-city suburb, Brunswick East.

Bridge Road Brewers co-founders Ben and Maria Kraus wanted to bring the spirit of their iconic Beechworth brewery to Brunswick East's new Bluestone Way precinct as its social centrepiece.

The venue, which will employ 30 staff, will comprise a production brewery with a mobile canning facility and a dining hall with a 30-tap bar offering beer brewed on-site and at the Beechworth headquarters.

The dining hall will echo Bridge Road's commitment to regional produce with pizza at the forefront of the menu.

Mr Kraus said the development was a natural progression for the 16-year-old business.

"Maria and I are truly excited to embed ourselves in and embrace the community and culture of Melbourne's inner north," he said.

"We've been carefully considering a step towards a city venue for over a decade and have finally found a new place that we can't wait to call home.

"Construction of the site is already under way, with an opening set for October 2022.

"We look forward to sharing more of the project and our journey over the next 16 months."

Having marked the brewery's 15th anniversary on the Queen's Birthday long weekend last year, Mr Kraus said at the time the couple were proud of what they built from humble beginnings in his dad's backyard shed at Beechworth.

"When Maria and I began our brewery journey as fresh-faced 20-somethings, we could never have imagined that we'd come so far," Mr Kraus said.

"We'd like to thank our team, who strive to make Bridge Road the best it can be especially during this shocker of a year, which has undoubtedly been the toughest we've encountered in beer, life and business!

"We're endlessly grateful for the support of our community and customers."

Together with their three children, the couple moved to Austria - Maria's home country - in mid-2019 for a "gap year".

They returned to Australia in December after a four-month delay owing to the global pandemic.

In late September Mr Kraus said their flights which were booked in July, August and September had been cancelled due to the restrictions on arrivals into Australia.

The family spent two weeks in quarantine in Adelaide before they returned to the North East ahead of the New Year.
