Wodonga mayor Kev Poulton and his Albury counterpart Kevin Mack both recalled the older edition while talking to the media this week.
"I think Albury-Wodonga had its own board game back in about 1984 if my memory serves me correct, we might need to find that board game," Cr Poulton said.
"I think I've got a copy of it back in my filing cabinet somewhere. Businesses have evolved and changed."
For two to six players, eight years and over, it features Border streets and landmarks.
Wagga residents have been asked which businesses should be included in their Monopoly version.
"I think in this current time, getting your family together in one location and celebrating what's unique is a great idea ... go Wagga," Cr Poulton said with a laugh.
