Victory Lutheran College has paid tribute to the cast and crew of School of Rock, who had been preparing to hit the stage Thursday and Friday nights, July 22 and 23.
Originally a 2020 production, the show's dates changed several times this year as coronavirus outbreaks led to snap shutdowns that kept on clashing with the proposed performances.
When the state's fifth lockdown was extended earlier this week, leaving the show again unable to go on after more than a year of rehearsals, the school decided to cancel it all together.
Unknown future restrictions, hall capacity and the impact on other school commitments contributed to the decision while licensing and logistical issues prevented filming or livestreaming.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Principal John Thompson said the school understood people's disappointment.
"Ultimately, it was agreed that any additional indefinite postponements would only cause further uncertainty for all involved," he said.
Head of secondary Tim Hartwich thanked everyone for their tireless work.
"And whilst we didn't get to share in the final performances, it is important we focus on the positives of what they learnt and did get to experience, rather than the negatives," he said.
Mr Thompson said the school was immensely proud of these efforts.
"We have seen enormous growth in many, impossible to quantify but important, life skills including increased confidence in communication and public performance, tenacity to push through, dedication, commitment and perseverance," he said.
