Sedgwick was in a bad way on Saturday night after the clash with Mellier, who was sent from the field for 15 minutes at Walla.

That bump, which sparked a melee in front of the benches, came seconds after a fierce contest between Sedgwick and Charlie Williams.

The Giants midfielder played out the match before scans revealed he had broken his jaw and would miss the rest of the season.

The injuries have left officials from both clubs incensed.

"'Sedgy's' one of the toughest players to play the game and sadly, because he's so good, he gets targeted," Saints coach Kade Stevens said.

"We saw another perfect example of that on Saturday.

"To see a cheap hit off the ball by a leader of the club.is disappointing and by no means brave or tough."

The Giants turned in their best performance of the season to win by 31 points, taking a step closer to the Hume league finals, but the win has been overshadowed by the injuries and suspension.

Mellier apologised to his team-mates after the game for leaving them a man short at the start of the second quarter.

"'Sedgy' was taken home and they had to call an ambulance because he was vomiting," Stevens revealed.

"To see the hit, that was 100 per cent fair, five seconds before that, between two players, was spine-tingling.

"But the aftermath of that didn't sit well with us.

"Wet weather brings on a lot more contested footy and it was a very physical game.

"I didn't have any issue with 95 per cent of that physicality."

Rand-Walbundrie-Walla are yet to confirm if they will be taking the first-quarter incident between Sedgwick and Williams further.

Mellier sad his intention was to bump and not cause injury but conceded his action had resulted in concussion and the criticism for that was warranted.

Brocklesby-Burrumbuttock were missing injured Azzi medallist Matt Seiter, Ron Boulton and Damian Cupido while the Giants went into the crucial clash without leading goalkicker Ben Hunt and co-captain Blake Lieschke.
