As James Filby and his four sons today marked the two-year anniversary of the loss of their beloved wife and mother Danelle, a lasting legacy was being installed in her name.

Towong Shire Council has been busy erecting the signpost for Danelle Lane; the road to the Talgarno family's home now forever paved with a mother's love.

Mr Filby learned in June he'd finally been successful in having the lane named in honour of his late wife of 20 years.

The application, initially approved by Towong council, hit red tape when state government authorities rejected the bid on the basis it "didn't do first names".

The fact there was already a 'Philby' Lane in the district combined with a special submission outlining Danelle's expansive community contributions saw the decision reversed.

In a post to Facebook, Mr Filby thanked Towong council for its efforts to see the sign erected.

"You moved mountains and my family is forever grateful," he wrote.

He later told The Border Mail he'd "only cried once today ... I'm so happy about the sign going in on the actually anniversary."

Danelle Filby, 38, died tragically at home on July 28, 2019 after becoming unwell with the flu; an autopsy revealed she died of a bacterial infection after contracting Influenza B.

Mr Filby has maintained Danelle, who had a strong faith, would be watching over him and their sons Taj, 17, Zane, 15, Ari, 12, and Lawson, 11, from heaven.
