The site earmarked for Wodonga's long awaited cinema complex will instead become home to a Dan Murphy's liquor store under plans submitted to council.
But a fresh planning application for a bottle shop development including Dan Murphy's branding has been lodged with council.
The revised plans for the site submitted on behalf of development group JP Wodonga has a $6.9 million price tag.
Earlier this year, Development Victoria, which has the lead role in developing the former railway corridor land in central Wodonga, confirmed a revised timeline for delivery of the cinema complex was being worked on with its proponent.
It was being done in conjunction with a revised master-plan for the remaining retail and commercial sites at Junction Place, including the hotel and conference centre, cinema and the commercial office development, to address implications of COVID-19 and regional market trends.

Development Victoria's group head of precincts Geoff Ward confirmed the proposed retail option put forward by Junction Place developer since 2016, Clinton Williams.
"The developer is currently awaiting permit approvals from (Wodonga Council) to progress the updated master plan, with a proposal to deliver a retail precinct on the site formerly earmarked for the cinema," Mr Ward said.
Development Victoria said a cinema centre was still earmarked for Junction Place.
"The council has been working with the developer (Clinton Williams) and Development Victoria on the revised master plan and we are excited by the opportunities it will present," Wodonga Council chief executive Mark Dixon said.
"The master plan itself does not require council determination. The final outcome will sit with Development Victoria.
"The council's role will be to assess planning permits associated with the future development."
