Teighan had her first ride on Boxing Day last year and partnered Tough James to victory in the $24,000 Class One Handicap, (1000m).

It was the third win of her fledgling career.

Garry trains a small team of two horses from his Albury stables with stablemate Prushinka yet to have her first start.

Teighan started her apprenticeship under Garry before joining the Phil Sweeney stables based in Jerilderie in March.

She revealed her grandfather was lost for words as she returned to scale aboard Tough James.

"It was a really great feeling to get a winner for Pop," Teighan said.

"It was funny when I got back to the winners enclosure because Pop didn't really have much to say to me.

"I think Pop was too shocked for words because we thought Tough James would be competitive but we didn't really expect him to win.

"So it was a pleasant surprise."

Teighan said she didn't get the chance to celebrate the win with her grandfather.

"Unfortunately we didn't really get the chance to celebrate the win," she said.

"Pop had to get the horse back to the stables and I had to get back to Jerilderie."

Teighan said the switch to Sweeney's stable has been good for her development.

"My riding has definitely improved since joining Phil but I still have a lot to learn."
