A North Albury man has been slammed for his "hideous" behaviour in headbutting a woman who came to the defence of another he had just abused.
The victim suffered concussion in the attack inflicted by Damian Thomas Carroll in a ski fields bar at Thredbo.
Carroll attacked the woman in the wake of being told he had missed out on a final drink at the Candlelight Lodge bar on the night of March 12.
IN OTHER NEWS:
A woman bartender called last drinks as the bar's liquor licence did not allow trading past midnight.
But by the time the 42-year-old Carroll got to the front of the line it was too late, Albury Local Court has heard.
Carroll expressed his displeasure at recent arrivals getting served instead.
"I was here before all these people," he said.
The bartender told him the midnight cut-off for service was non-negotiable.
To that he yelled "b**ch" and "f**k you b**ch".
She told him to leave and then the victim, who was standing about 1.5 metres away in the front of the bar, came over and intervened.
"You can't speak to her like that," she told Carroll, who replied: "F**k you."
She asked him if he was staying in the lodge and he said he wasn't so she told him: "Why don't you f**k off then?"
Carroll swore back and then stepped towards her and headbutted the woman, causing immediate pain and bruising.
"It's a hideous example of this conduct, actually," magistrate Richard Funston said.
"Just to speak to a woman like that, to headbutt someone like that."
Mr Funston said if it was not for Carroll's guilty plea to the charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and offensive behaviour "I would have considered locking you up today".
Defence lawyer Angus Lingham said Carroll conceded he had mental health issues.
"He's been placed on a mental health care plan and he's been going to counselling for four months, which is going well."
Carroll was put on an 18-month community corrections order.
