Clubs were set to return to the field on Saturday after a three-week hiatus to complete the penultimate round of the home and away season, but have been denied less than 48 hours out.

It's robbed the league of two ladder-defining clashes between Barnawartha (fourth) and Yackandandah (first) and Kiewa-Sandy Creek (third) and Chiltern (second) on Saturday.

If the snap lockdown is lifted as planned in seven days, by the end of next Thursday, all clubs, except NSW-based Thurgoona, would again be in the less than ideal position of not having trained two days out from when the final round was scheduled to go ahead, on August 14.

Finals had been planned to start on August 21.
