Defence lawyer Angus Lingham has told Albury Local Court that Nathan Peter Coleman was nothing other than remorseful over his behaviour.
"I note that this was a difficult relationship, it can only be described as a toxic relationship," Mr Lingham said.

But ultimately the breakdown in the relationship, which had been on then off again over the past four months, was the 32-year-old had been made homeless.
"He was effectively living in his car," Mr Lingham said.
The court heard previously how the victim told police she had been receiving an estimated 100 text messages and missed calls a day from Coleman in the two months before he vandalised her car.
Mr Lingham submitted to Mr Funston that he consider that this was "a very loose" estimate by the victim.
He said it was acknowledged the text messages sent and phone messages left by Coleman were "offensive" but "at no point did they involve any threats".
Coleman previously pleaded guilty to using a carriage service to harass, menace or offend, for which he has been convicted and fined $500, and to destroy and damage property, which resulted in him being placed on a 12-month conditional release order.
The second charge was over an incident on July 8 where he scratched the victim's car after she parked it outside a friend's Lavington home.
She and her girlfriend witnessed the incident on a CCTV security system.
