Two years after the refurbishment was promised and one year after the tender application opened, Joss Constructions has won the tender, with building expected to start in September.

Executive principal Vern Hilditch said the announcement coincided with the 50-year anniversary of the opening of Galvin Hall, built to recognise former teacher John Galvin.

"It's just remarkable," he said.

"The fact that it was opened by the then school council president in 1971, and now exactly 50 years since its opening we are looking at not only repurposing it, but refurbishing it.

"I am delighted.

"The senior college and wider community have been planning and working towards the construction of these facilities within the community for many years.

"I'm so pleased that we are one step closer to realising this."

The dual stadium will include toilet and change rooms, kiosk space, umpires' rooms, store-rooms, office, first aid rooms, a classroom and gym or weights area.

Mr Hilditch said the completed project would provide students at the senior college with a variety of spaces for indoor sports, theatre, dance and music.

"Middle years have got two stadiums that they use we haven't got one," he said.

"So this will allow us to continue those programs from the middle years through to the senior years."

Mr Hilditch said the dual stadium and refurbished hall would also benefit the wider community.

"For example, the basketball association will be using it," he said.

"We would anticipate that the performing arts space, that the Wodonga brass band may in fact want to use this as their home.

"Also the Flying Fruit Fly Circus, they will be using it for their after school training on some nights of the week.

"That'll be good, it'll give them a footprint on the Wodonga side of the border.

"After what we've gone through that would have been most useful over the last weeks, otherwise their training has to come to a sudden halt."

Construction is expected to take 12 months, with the hall and stadium both to be operational in the second half of next year.
