She said speculation from the Albury-Wodonga area that the league may be close to folding had filtered back to the Upper Murray community over the past few weeks.

Edwards, who replaced Gavin Rendell as operations manager this season, contacted The Border Mail to set the record straight.

"Apparently there are rumours around Albury-Wodonga that the Upper Murray league will fold next year," Edwards said.

"As operations manager, I just wanted to be proactive and say it's not the case.

"The most recent meeting the clubs had with the league was last month when the tough call was made to abandon the season.

"And while everyone was saddened by the decision, everyone was looking forward to next year and coming back bigger and stronger.

"Yes, the Upper Murray league was the first competition to scrap the season.

"But somebody had to be the first with the decision which has been vindicated with a lot of other leagues also being forced to abandon their seasons the last couple of weeks."

Edwards said the league was meeting on Monday night to discuss which awards will be presented for this season.

"We haven't discussed whether there will be a minor premier because not all clubs played the same amount of matches," she said.

"It also causes issues with the league best and fairest with Cudgewa having played an extra match."
