Just three wins from 18 games left Bethanga staring up at the rest and president Jack Robinson is determined to break into the top-six this time around.
"Last year, as a playing group, we all know we didn't perform at our best," Robinson admitted.
"We had good potential at the start of the year but ended up finishing last so the motivation is there from both the coaching group and the playing group to improve on last year.
"We've got some good players but we have to demonstrate that out on the park. We've got some great talent, it's just about clicking on the field together and making it work.
"I think you have to set targets and our target is to make finals.
"We're not a club that says 'we're going to win the premiership this year', we like to set small targets, make them achievable and build that way."

Brett Gilbee continues as coach, assisted by Robinson, while Luke Rafferty has been re-appointed 1st XI captain.
The seconds will be led in 2021/22 by Toby Bridgman.
"Our numbers aren't too bad," Robinson said.
"Lots of blokes from last year are keen to play again and we've got some potential new recruits lined up.
"It looks like we'll have more numbers than last year, which is great.
"We've been lucky enough to get some new sponsors, who have been very generous and the club's looking like it has some great support for this season."
