A man was crushed underneath a grey Volkswagen Amarok utility on Mulls Track.
The driver allegedly ran from the scene before being found and taken into custody.
Police said five people had been travelling in the utility before the accident.
They got out of the vehicle near Lonies Gap Road about 10.45pm.
One of the men got back into the car and started to drive.
The car appeared to have travelled up an embankment before tipping over and crushing the late man.
Emergency services were called to the incident, but the man died at the scene.
He is yet to be formally identified.
Police allege the driver, an 18-year-old man, fled the area following the crash and was found at a nearby campsite.
He remains in police custody.
Two men and a woman stayed at the scene of the crash immediately after the incident and are helping police with the investigation.
Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit attended the area, which is located on a bush road about 3.5 kilometres from the town, on Sunday morning.
The vehicle remained in place as they inspected the scene.
It's believed the group involved in the incident are not from the area.
SES volunteers also attended the area to provide assistance.
