It was only months later - on August 17, 2015 - that Nigel Sim would lose his fight with pancreatic cancer at the age of 46.

At his funeral, more than 500 mourners paid tribute to "Nige" - a man with a big smile and an even bigger heart - especially when it came to his beloved family.

Now his only daughter - his "princess" - has rallied a team to be part of the Remember September fundraiser for the Australian Pancreatic Cancer Foundation (PanKind).

The event aims to remember the 63 Australians who die from pancreatic cancer every single week and support those who are fighting to survive the country's third largest cancer killer.

Participants can either 'Give It Up' or 'Move It' - choosing to give up a vice of choice like caffeine or sugar, or walk 63 kilometres for the month.

On Monday, Annabelle had already reached the 63-kilometre target thanks to some long laps around the Holbrook racecourse and township, joined by friends and family on Team Nige.

But the 23-year-old has vowed to walk as many kilometres as possible to help raise funds for life-saving pancreatic cancer research and the foundation's work to improve survival rates for people fighting pancreatic cancer.

She is now being supported in her quest by Michael Glasser, stud stock manager for Ray White Livestock GTSM at Albury.

Mr Glasser has offered to run an online auction (which will run from Friday, October 1, 9am to Sunday, October 3, 6pm) with all proceeds to be donated to PanKind.

The rural industry and wider community has rallied behind the event with Elite Livestock Auctions offering to run the auction for free.

Meanwhile Annabelle said businesses and individuals had been incredibly generous with their support and there were already more than 22 auction items up for grabs including gravel (delivered), a tonne of super (spread), B&B accommodation, personal training sessions, Tupperware and even a stallion service fee!

And while her goal is to create greater awareness of Remember September and all the lives lost to pancreatic cancer, there is no doubt her dad is at the forefront of Annabelle's mind with every step she takes.

Together with his wife Allison, who still owns and runs the Albury Horseland franchise, Nigel was heavily involved in the local stock horse society and was always ready to help others.

Annabelle reckons he'd be pretty proud of her recent efforts - as he was of all his children, including Jack and Lachie.

"I think Dad would say we are giving it a red hot crack," she smiled.
