Proof of vaccination is now required to gain entry to an increasing number of events around the world and the changing landscape in Australia means something similar can be expected when enough people have been double-jabbed for states to open up fully.

"I think that's going to be the way of the world," Ovens and Murray chairman David Sinclair said.

"If it comes in, it'll be brought in by AFL Victoria and AFL North East Border but I suspect it will be introduced, that to either go into a game or participate in a game, you'll need to be double-vaccinated.

"Not in our wildest dreams would we ever have thought that's where it would get to but if it means we can churn out 18 games next year and four weeks of finals, that's what needs to happen and that's what will happen."

Hume league president Brendan I'Anson knows elderly supporters must be protected when community sport re-opens for business.

"I would hope that our vaccination rate is (already) up at 50 or 60 percent because we're going to need that next year regardless," he said.

"We might need players to be double-vaccinated to play sport, who knows?

"If it's going to happen, it'll be part of player registration, a one-off. It's all done online and I guess your MyGov may well be linked so that should be pretty straightforward.

"I would like to think we haven't got to force kids to get vaccinated and I don't think it's fair to tell every player to get vaccinated just to play sport.

"But that'll be a Government decision, it certainly won't be mine."

Matthew Elliott, operations manager for the Albury-Wodonga Junior Football League and North East Border Female Football League, hopes the 80 percent vaccination target will mean no more cancelled seasons.

"We'll still be able to do sport, living with COVID," he said.

"With us having such high vaccination rates compared to now, you might have one player miss out because they've been exposed to it, rather than having to shut down the whole league."
