The long-time battlers trumpeted Alistair Burge's recent signing as the biggest in the club's history.

The 28-year-old played with Kew in the strong Victorian Sub-District Association last season, out-pointing former Australian bowler John Hastings to claim the team's bowling award.

Burge started with Cricket Victoria as North East Country Cricket manager a month ago and boasts Level Two coaching accreditation.

The all-rounder will play under coach Stewart Peace, but his knowledge will be invaluable.

"My coaching philosophy is based around confidence, as a group how do we instill confidence in people first and then our cricket as well," he offered.

"I think we have to develop better people just as much as better cricketers."

Burge, who also spent time with Victorian Premier clubs St Kilda and Melbourne, believes he still has improvement in his cricket.

"Because there's so many components to cricket, it takes a while to work the game out and be confident in their role," he explained.

"By the time you get to your late 20s, you're starting to figure it all out."
