The competition is eager to expand for 2022 and officials have approached one club from both the Hume and Tallangatta leagues about making the switch.

Saints president Adrian Barry confirmed there had been contact but insisted the idea was a non-starter.

"I'm not sure why any club would move when we're in such a strong and thriving competition as the Tallangatta & District Football League," Barry said.

"No offence to the Upper Murray but they're struggling with numbers, juniors and all those sorts of things.

"We feel juniors are such an important part of our club and I'm not sure the parents from Wodonga would be willing to travel that far up there to play junior sport when they can do it in town in the junior leagues here.

"I won't say that people haven't approached me with the idea of moving leagues but it's not on our radar at all.

"We're aware these rumours fly around every year but we're staying put."

Saints have been stuck in the bottom two of the Tallangatta league for the past six seasons but Barry insists they'll keep working to climb the ladder rather than jump ship.

"I know, around 2015, things weren't going well for the club and we were getting quite a few floggings but we've always stood fast that we want to stay where we are," he said.

"We've brought some people in that we think are passionate, long-term people for the club and it's proven to be that way.

"We're slowly building to something that resembles what we want to be.

"There's still a little way to go but we're on that path."

Zack Pleming has re-signed as coach, with the club in the market for a non-playing co-coach to work alongside him in 2022.
