In a devastating blow for the Phoenix, Shaikh has departed Urana Road Oval after making 836 runs in his only season with the club.
The former Indian Premier League batsman made a century against Tallangatta in round 20 and would have almost certainly smashed the 1000-run barrier had it not been for suspension and COVID.
He also took 15 wickets.
New City has had little luck with imports in recent years after sacking Tarisai Musakanda in 2020 after he was convicted for drink driving.
Corey McIntosh, 20, has joined the Bushies from Wangaratta and District powerhouse Yarrawonga-Mulwala.
