The man was riding with his son on Thursday when he crashed, injuring his back, on Hunchback Hill.
The man's son raised the alarm about 1.40pm after the man rolled down a 15 metre ditch on the Rock 'n' Roller track, hitting his back.
The younger man used his phone to find his location and alert emergency services, with the pair about three kilometres into the mountain biking area.
His father was taken down the hill after being stabilised and placed on a gurney.
There were concerns the man had broken bones.
He taken down the hill about 5pm before being loaded into an ambulance.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The man's son said he had also fallen off a short time before his father, but wasn't badly injured.
He thanked the emergency service workers and volunteers for their help.
The younger man said the crash wouldn't stop the pair from going on more rides.
More than 20 police, firefighters, paramedics and SES volunteers were involved in the incident.
Other family members waited at the base of the hill.
Sergeant Mick Maley said it showed the importance of riding in pairs and having phones, which made it easier to pinpoint the location of injured people.
"It's good going out in pairs, make sure you've got water and food so that if something does happen the second person can make sure you're looked after and can phone in for help," he said.
"It give us someone to talk to to figure out exactly where you are"
The area is popular with riders but serious injuries are relatively rare.
