The community group, that has backed federal Independent members for Indi Cathy McGowan and Helen Haines, turns ten next year.

The as yet untitled book is being assembled by those with ties to Voices for Indi and will be published after the federal election which could be as late as next May.

Voices for Indi convenor Rob Carolane said various authors would contribute chapters.

"It's a record of what we've been through, it's not a how-to book," Mr Carolane said referencing the fact other Voices group have emerged in electorates around Australia.

"It's about a journey of what we've been through and the lessons we've learnt.

"Fundamentally it's such a broad movement and no one person knows the story and no one person is the story.

"It can't be told by one person."

Those penning chapters include past convenor Alana Johnson, and Dr Haines' husband Phil Haines as well as Dennis Ginnivan, Amanda Aldous and John Davis.

Ms McGowan and Dr Haines will write of taking concerns to parliament and issues such as phone coverage, rail infrastructure, the push for an anti-corruption body and renewable energy.

The first Indi Independent wrote her own book Cathy Goes to Canberra last year but she said there was "room for lots".

"This is very different, mine was Cathy's story, this a community story with lots of different voices," Ms McGowan said.

The $40,000 is being sought online at chuffed.org/project/v4ibookfunder with a deadline of October 16 for the tally to be reached.

Mr Carolane said that represented the bulk of the book's budget with individuals and Voices for Indi also making contributions.

The money will help with a print run expected to be several thousands and to cover professional editing.

"We're doing it because this story needs to be told," Mr Carolane said.

"It's Voices for Indi which is the author and all the authors are donating their time, donating their intellectual property for Voices for Indi and Voices for Indi hope to break even."

Mr Carolane became convenor last year after having joined Voices for Indi in 2018 off the back of concerns over democracy and integrity eroding amid the rise of Trumpism.
