Families escaping the confines of their homes and screens are constituting the majority of visitors to Murray Art Museum Albury.
Albury went back into a snap lockdown just as the NSW school holidays began, but MAMA's engagement manager Annie Falcke said the final week would be a saving grace.
"When we reopened the first time, we booked 135 places in art camp in a week - beating our best ever September at around 75," she said.
"Then, of course, we had to cancel the first week (for the second snap lockdown).
"This week we have essentially sold-out sessions every day.
"There's been this really interesting sense of optimism; people are wanting to commit even though it might be cancelled.
"They just want the kids to be doing something stimulating, away from a screen."
A free kids activity trail, which the MAMA team update with each exhibition, has been a popular activity this week.
"The museum has been relatively quiet, which is to be expected, but the visitors that are coming through are families with kids," Ms Falcke said.
"We created the activity trail in response to the pandemic, realising that classes and workshops was not going to work as well anymore.
"We needed to have something available at any time of the week, and we wanted the trail to lead people through the museum."
Five 'wonder cupboards' by Jeff McCann hidden around the museum is among the activities in this iteration.
"They are asked to find things in the scene - it's really meant to engage a variety of ages and learners and not every activity is creative," Ms Falcke said.
"Just the other day, we had a group of older teenagers going through and doing the activity trail.
"We market it to kids, but often we find the adults enjoy it as well."

Ms Falcke said an installation by Trevor Keith Orford, Mr Turner's Balcony, is also drawing in young and old viewers alike.
"It's just opened up and people are really responding to it," she said.
