Aaron James, 44, fronted the Wangaratta Magistrates Court in a video link from jail on Monday.
The court heard the former Collingwood, Richmond and Western Bulldogs player had a large "pile" of matters pending.
He is facing drug, burglary and theft allegations.
Lawyer Samuel Russo said his client would plead guilty when the matter returns to the court in November.
James, who wore a face mask and a dark green prison shirt during proceedings, did not speak during a brief mention of the matter.
He has been charged by Wangaratta officers from the family violence, crime investigation and general duties units, with four briefs of evidence pending.
Mr Russo said it would take about 45 minutes for his client's plea to be heard.
The 44-year-old will remain in custody.
IN OTHER NEWS
He did not apply for release before magistrate Peter Mithen on Monday.
James played 54 AFL games across eight seasons and kicked 25 goals.
He left the Bulldogs during the 2002 season to play in the Bendigo Football League.
James later played in other leagues around the state but has found himself in trouble with the authorities in recent years.
He has faced driving, drug and other allegations and been arrested on multiple occasions by police in the North East.
Details of the latest allegations were not detailed in court yesterday, with the matter only running for about five minutes.
Mr Mithen adjourned the 44-year-old's matters off for a consolidated plea.
The plea will be heard before the court on November 15, with James to again appear on video link.
