The Department of Health and Human Services reported 867 cases in the 24 hours to midnight, plus the additional results.
"Sadly, four people with COVID-19 have died," the department posted on Twitter.
"Late yesterday, the department became aware that a number of COVID-19 test results were incorrectly recorded by a third-party software vendor supporting a private provider.
"These results included nine cases reportable on 26 September and 140 cases reportable on 27 September. "
More details are expected in the Victorian daily briefing on Tuesday.

There were no cases acquired overseas among the 49,450 test results received while 35,160 vaccine doses were administered.
The Victorian daily case total is greater than the number reported by NSW on Monday.
The department on Monday afternoon listed exposure sites in Myrtleford and Beechworth, adding to the locations of concern in Wodonga and Wangaratta.
Victoria recorded 705 new cases of COVID-19 and one death that day.
