A Yarrawonga man has been charged after allegedly shooting a family pet while undertaking illegal spotlighting.

A Barooga couple were at their home on Coldwells Road on April 1 when they noticed a car in their driveway about 11pm.
The car drove to the rear sheds of their rural property and the owner saw a spotlight being used before two shots were fired.
The couple's cat was found dead two days later as a result of the shooting.
Officers attached to Murray River Police District's Rural Crime Prevention Team were notified and commenced an investigation.

A 47-year-old Yarrawonga man attended Mulwala Police Station on Monday morning following extensive enquiries.
He was arrested and charged with shooting on enclosed lands, and unlawfully entering agricultural land and possessing or discharging a gun.
He will face Corowa Local Court on November 11.
