Albury Wodonga Health's executive director of public health Lucie Shanahan has thanked residents for coming forward for testing, but said a text message sent out last night had prompted the swarm of people coming forward.
"We're aware the Department of Health sent a text message out late yesterday afternoon, advising people that if they'd been to an exposure site that they needed to come forward for testing," she said.
"This has generated quite a large testing response today, which is absolutely the right thing for people to do.
"Unfortunately, our clinics are at capacity for testing today and we know wait times are already going to exceed hours of operation."
Ms Shanahan asked residents to continue to do the right thing by isolating until they could get a negative test result.
She said if people had been tested over the last four days because they'd been to an exposure site, they did not need to come forward for testing again.
"If you have been tested on Saturday, Sunday, Monday or Tuesday because you're aware that you've been at an exposure site, you don't need to come forward today, despite receiving the text message today from the Department," she said.
"We thank everyone for their response, our clinics will be up and running again tomorrow and we hope to be able to support everyone's testing needs as quickly as possible."

Albury Wodonga Health are asking that no more residents join the queue at the two COVID-19 testing clinics in Wodonga, as the clinics are at capacity for today.
Albury Wodonga Health said they can't fit in any additional tests within operating hours today and wait times are already up to seven hours long.
It comes as vast numbers of people turn up for testing after a series of exposure sites were listed in Wodonga after a fourth person tested positive to coronavirus at the weekend.
