The current Treasurer has apparently secured a deal that will see him move into the top job while Minister for Western Sydney Stuart Ayres will become deputy Liberal leader and Environment Minister Matt Kean will become Treasurer.
However, the official vote isn't held til Tuesday.
That isn't the only news to come out of NSW politics over the weekend, with Transport Minister Andrew Constance to quit the front bench in the coming week and step down as the Bega MP by the end of 2021. to embark on a preselection push for the federal seat of Gilmore ahead of next year's election.
Panthers win grand final
Penrith have defeated South Sydney 14-12 to claim a third NRL premiership, making amends for last year's grand final heartbreak and ending coach Ivan Cleary's long wait for a title.
The Panthers dominated territory but were left scampering in the final minutes of Sunday's grand final at Suncorp Stadium to ensure Souths didn't steal a win in captain Adam Reynolds and coach Wayne Bennett's final game for the club.

NSW's final week in lockdown
NSW has begun its final scheduled week in lockdown before homes and hospitality businesses can once again welcome visitors as the state nears its 70 per cent double dose vaccination target.
Across the state, 88.4 per cent of people aged 16 and over had received a first vaccine, and 67.1 per cent were fully vaccinated by midnight on Saturday.

COVID-19 in Tassie, WA
A teenager has tested positive to COVID after arriving in Launceston, Tasmania, from Melbourne on Friday.
He travelled from Launceston Airport into quarantine at a family home where he underwent a routine COVID test which came back positive.
Meanwhile in Western Australia, authorities are keeping a close eye on an oil tanker docked in Fremantle after 12 of its 22 crew members tested positive for COVID-19.
Four of the crew were taken to hospital in Perth after the ship docked on Saturday, with two in ICU. One is in a serious but stable condition, WA Health said on Sunday.
