Howlong Golf Resort has landed the only pro edition of Blitz golf in NSW.

"There's only six pro events in the whole of Australia," Howlong Golf Resort general manager Shaun Whitechurch enthused.

"Only 32 pros can play and we already have 29, while we only opened the entries for amateurs on Monday and half of those spots have already been taken."

Blitz golf has been introduced in recent years and is designed as a quicker format than the traditional 18 holes, which can take a group more than four hours.

The 32 pros and amateurs will play six holes and then be whittled down to a final four, which plays off over just one hole.

Howlong's sixth hole, which is situated at the front of the clubhouse, will be the designated 'stadium' hole, where the winner is decided.

And unlike the traditional game, where spectators aren't allowed to barrack during a player's shot, Blitz golf will have music and greater interaction.

"There will be jumping castles and face painting for the kids, we want the kids to watch pro golfers that they'd normally see on the 'telly' (television) and they can walk beside them," Whitechurch suggested.

Former European Tour winner Marcus Fraser will headline the event, along with long-time ACT star Matt Millar.

"I've played two rounds in seven months, so I don't know how well I'm going to go, I better get in some practice before I get up there," Fraser quipped.

The 43-year-old has retired from the circuit and is now the director of coaching at Peninsula Kingswood Country Golf Club.

Howlong's November 19 event will be worth $15,000, with the respective pro and amateur winner moving through to the final at Glenelg in early January.

"It obviously puts Howlong on the map, although Howlong still has the largest golf membership in Australia with more than 4600," Whitechurch offered.

"It's immeasurable exposure and another thing it does is put another event on the Border.

"The pros will play here on the Friday and then contest a two-day pro-am at Barham over Saturday and Sunday and then head to Cohuna after that, so it's giving them another reason to play a course on the Murray (River)."
