The boy also suggested to the victim that his mother might well now be in danger.

"I want you to tell me where you are or I will take it out on your mum," the then 16-year-old said to the victim, also aged 16.

Albury Children's Court has been told the pistol incident, via an Instagram video call, took place 12 months after the boy's girlfriend struck-up a conversation with the victim in a Sydney youth refuge.

The boy, who will turn 18 later this month, was staying at the refuge in the south-western suburb of Leumah in July, 2020.

During their stay, the victim got to know the girl, then 14.

Police said the teenager "came to believe" the victim and his girlfriend were "romantically involved''.

The victim moved out about a month later and had no contact with the pair until late July.

On the afternoon of July 23, the girlfriend made several video calls to the victim.

At first she was friendly, but became rude by the final call.

Minutes later, the boy made his own video call to the victim.

After delivering the veiled threat he revealed the pistol, which had a half-loaded ammunition magazine he then slammed into the handgun.

This frightened the victim, who called police.

They went to the boy's Resolution Street house the next day at 9.30am, finding him in a bedroom with his girlfriend.

Police asked about the gun and he pointed to behind a television.

The boy, who appeared via a phone link to Sydney, pleaded guilty to intimidation, possess an unauthorised pistol, possess ammunition without a permit and not keep a firearm safely.

He will be sentenced in Campbelltown Children's Court on November 15.
